What personal accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my 10 years of military service. The lessons, values, and experiences I learned through the military have made me the person I am today. Serving a year in the middles east, away from friends and family showed me how to place value on things that we take for granted. Meeting new and diverse groups of people taught me how to be patient and tolerant of all walks of life. All of the Training pushed my mind and body to limits I thought not possible, and showed me that I can accomplish anything that I set my mind to.
What is your primary personal development goal/business goal for the next 5 years?
I want to continue to develop myself as a top strength coach in the region for Altitude Fitness as well as building my fitness brand BodyBySykes. I want people from around Wyoming to come to me for their training needs, not only in body building, but all fitness avenues. I truly believe with my passion, and my drive for furthering my own knowledge, I can do exactly that.
What is your biggest philanthropic achievement?
I would have to say my military service. There are many reasons people join the military; pay for school, bonus incentives, and other self-focused reasons. My reason for joining was not for any of those. Of course getting school paid for was an added bonus, but my main reason was to serve and protect my country. I take great pride in the service that I have given, and in this country and its people.
What action or event that you've been a part of, that you believe has made the biggest difference in Laramie? Or are you most proud of?
I have helped a lot of people turn their lives around through exercise and diet. Many people have come to me over weight, unhappy, and unmotivated. After a few personal training sessions, and a nutrition consultation I begin to see changes. I have people come to me all the time saying that they hear what good things my diet plan has done, and that they want help. I love seeing people succeed and achieve things that they never thought possible. I believe in people, and show them that they can believe in themselves to.
What excites you most about the future of Laramie?
I think that there is a lot of potential to grow in the fitness aspect. One thing that Laramie has always lacked is a prominent fitness training facility and fitness professionals. We have always had Half Acre, for the students, and Laramie Fitness for the rest of Laramie, but nothing that stood out amongst the crowd. Nothing that really took people to that next level. I want to achieve that through my training at Altitude Fitness. I want to be the trainer, and the gym that everyone talks about in town.
What do you think has helped make you successful in your endeavors?
I truly love what I do in the fitness industry, and I have the combination of experience and education. I wake up every day knowing that I get to work in a gym, and every day excites me. If you are truly happy with what you do, then I believe you can be successful in anything. Knowledge and experience are a lethal combination, armed with both you can achieve anything. I think that experience needs to come first, and knowledge you build along the way. Learning through living is the true way to become an expert.
What advice would you give to other young professionals in Laramie?
Never stop the pursuit of learning. Knowledge changes daily, and to become and expert you must constantly be learning. Live evolves in all aspects and you must evolve with it. Stay humble, and absorb as much knowledge as possible. Remember that there is always someone out there that knows more than you. Seek that person out and Learn from them, it will only make you better.
